The Farmer who lived.

The Farming industry is one of the most dangerous industries to work in and it’s not often we hear a positive end to such a dangerous scenario in relation to accidents on farms in Australia.

According to Safe Work Australia, 3,414 workers have died from 2003 to 2016, 39% of worker fatalities were due to vehicle collision from 2003 to 2016, and 44 workers who died in 2016 worked in the agriculture, forestry and fishing industry.

It started as any ordinary working day on the farm but ended with Gavin Boekel’s body trapped in a grain crusher as he calls his wife to say good-bye, in May 2019.

The father-of-five quickly slipped into a coma and was rushed to the hospital with both his feet in different shopping bags, fearing he would lose his legs and his life.

Mr Boekel was able to be saved, despite his horrific injuries, and is on the road to recovery. The entire town and community of Coleyville are chipping in and doing everything they can to support the local family.

It’s stories like Mr Boekel’s that serve as a reminder to business owners and operators to ensure safety measures are always being followed, and necessary HR & Safety Procedures are in place.
